Easter Bunny – cocktail for Easter

Easter Bunny is my take on a cocktail designed specifically for Easter. Anyone who knows me and my interest in mixology knows that I like working on developing new cocktails to fit a theme. Colours is an obvious one. Seasons of the year is also a fun way of creating cocktails. Creating a successful cocktail which reminds you of a season is great at helping you feel a particular way. So is sipping a cocktail which enhances a vibe. A gooseberry martini or strawberry martini is ideal for summer and likely to be make you feel in a summery mood. Fruity flavours and pale colours support the time of year. You’re maybe less keen on rich or whisky cocktails in the height of summer. But a short, rich, dark cocktail may be just the thing for mid-winter or Christmas. Rusty Nail anyone?

Easter Bunny – it’s creation

Around the end of 2021, I can’t remember why, I was experimenting with Advocaat. The snowball is a great Christmas cocktail. Light in alcoholic content and an unusual colour, it stands out. I think Advocaat is often given a bad press. For people who’ve never tried it, they’re often put off by the idea that it is made of eggs. I understand that.

Yellow is the colour of Easter and chocolate is the main flavour. So combined with vanilla and a second helping of chocolate, it is perfect for the season. If an Easter egg was a cocktail, this is what it would be like. I based it around vanilla vodka as I thought the vanilla flavour would complement the chocolate. Also Advocaat has a vanilla vibe in any case. Vodka and the dryness of the spirit offsets the sweetness of the 3 liqueurs. So here it is, the Easter Bunny. Well a slightly naughty form of Easter Bunny.

Recipe

  • Vanilla vodka
  • Advocaat
  • Creme de Cacao (white)
  • Creme de Cacao (brown)

Shake all the ingredients with ice except the brown creme de cacao. Then once you’ve poured the cocktail in your glass, pour just 5 ml of the brown creme de cacao through the mixture carefully. It will settle on the bottom creating what looks like a dark chocolate base. Makes your cocktail look more interesting. And if that still isn’t enough chocolate, why not grate a little chocolate on the top?

Happy Easter.
